1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

CALLING ALL KIDS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN!

Dive into the world of stories with your little one and create lifelong memories! Join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program and learn how you can boost your young child’s pre-literacy skills!

For every 100 books read before kindergarten – earn a small prize, a sticker, and a photo shoot! For 500 books – win a small stuffie – and for 1000 books win a Tshirt!

  • Foster the love of literacy and learning in your little ones! Enjoy screen-free time together (library storytimes as well as ebooks count towards your goal). Encourage older siblings to read to their their younger siblings.
  • The more exposure to written and spoken words, the larger the vocabulary a child will have in speaking, reading, and understanding. Kindergarten and early elementary education have a strong focus on building literacy skills through literature comprehension and writing skills. 21st century skills are built upon communication, collaboration, and creativity. Learning starts now!
  • Illinois Learning Standards for kindergarten English/Language Arts goals includes all children graduating from kindergarten being able to read. (Kindergarten English/Language Arts Priority Standards: RF.K.4)
