Science Kits Coming to Your Library

The Library’s Science Kits are being built in collaboration with Triton College’s Engineering Department, bringing science and entertainment to your home. Each kit focuses on a scientific topic such as electronics, microbiology, or astronomy.

Each kit consists of instructions, resources, and tools (a microscope, slides, or binoculars) to help kids conduct experiments at home, such as building a solar LED flashlight, creating a walking robot, and exploring the outdoors through studying the night sky.

Among these kits is the Snap Circuits Electronics Kit, in which kids will learn the basics of electronics through building circuits. The Makey Makey Kit allows kids to create a keyboard out of everyday objects, focusing on the dynamics of programming and invention. The Arduino Starter Kit includes 15 projects for kids to create, including a musical instrument and a digital hourglass.

Science Kits are formed in relation to Full STEAM Ahead, our children’s program focusing on science, technology, engineering, art, and math.  The kits are brought to the Library through a generous grant from IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers ) – Chicago Section.

Science Kits will be available for checkout in June 2017.
